What I'm not understanding is havin a sale witha starting price and a reserve?
Surely if you want X pounds for a thing you can just start at X and be done with it?

A low starting point attracts lots more bidding - high ones even if they are reasonable, put people off at first glance. But you have a reserve just to protect yourself from selling your car for 1p :D

That says it best - but I also cynically think the seller is hoping for a lot more than they will settle for (the reserve).
